Breathing Life into Cities
On Friday I was lucky enough to attend the 'Breathing Life into Cities' event at Scotscape in Surrey. This event was all about living walls and bringing green spaces back into the city. I loved it! I was in my element and had the best day! For those of you who don't know Green Walls or Living Walls are essentially vertical gardens. Vertical structures are assembled against existing walls, a special material is applied to the structure and the vegetation is simply planted into pockets and basically allowed to do it's thing.
Living walls have been on my radar for a while now and I've always loved the beauty of them but I never knew how they actually worked. This workshop was the perfect way to for fill my curiosity and I got all of my questions answered. Living walls help to purify air, provides sound and heat insulation for the building, improve the health and well-being of those that can see and experience the living wall, improves urban diversity for plants and insects, the list goes on and on!
Niall, our host, was very helpful and put on a brilliant presentation that was insightful, thorough and extremely helpful. The day turned my interest of living walls into a love and I am still yet to find a negative! I want one on every wall of my forever home inside and out! I cannot rave about them enough.
